Big Brother Big Sister Project
Volunteers "adopt" a youngster from a disadvantaged family
for one year, during which they weave a web of friendship and support. The volunteer
meets with the child on a weekly basis and serves as a model for establishing
positive study habits and behavior. The child is treated to nature hikes and other
sports and extracurricular activities both by the big brother/sister as well as
through the auspices of The Maccabee Institute.
SPECIAL PROJECT Maccabee adopts Girls school
The Tzvia Girl's High School of Kochav Yaakov is a very special
school that was born out of the need for protection of the needs of
our daughters from Arab terrorism and Arab attacks on the roads
they would have to travel. It was also created to fill the need
where religious girls could receive a very strong secular education
in addition to their Jewish studies, whereby they can be accepted
to any university in any field to which the would choose.
Many girl's high schools only prepare their student body to be
teachers, however, we feel it is necessary for our girls, our
future generation, to be accepted and work in any of the
technological fields available today.
The school was founded upon the teachings of Rabbi Kook, the first
chief rabbi of Israel, who stressed the teachings of the love of
Torah, the love of Israel, and the love of our fellow human.
The school was built with love and this can be witnessed by the way
the teachers are looked up to by the students, and the teachers
treat and nurture their students.
At this time, there are approximately 125 girls studying at the
school. The Tzvia Kochav Yaakov school is so successful, that we
have a waiting list of hundreds more waiting to get in. We are
working hard to fill the needs of these girls waiting in the wings,
however, at this time, our school does not have the facilities and
room to take in and educate the overflow of students.
We are asking you to please partake in the mitzvah of building and
educating a new generation of young Jewish women. We need your
help to make a difference in the lives and the future of these
young women who will be making their way in the world. Please give
generously, or whatever you can and know that you have helped to
change the lives of religious Jewish girls for generations to come.
When visiting Israel, please call us so we can show you where your
money went in the building and funding of the Tzvia School of Kochav Yaakov.
Dr. Sheldon and Connie Abramson Department of Oral Medicine and Research
We now have the privilege of expanding our services to include a Department of Oral Medicine and Research. which will further the investigation of the relationship
of dentistry to general health.
We have discovered a direct relationship between dental health and many systemic diseases such as Osteoporosis, Diabetes, Arthritis and most recently,
Arteriosclerosis.
We are continuing our research in these areas, as well as our present program of dental treatment for victims of terror and the disadvantaged elderly. We
provide family and cosmetic dentistry at our modern dental facility in Jerusalem.
As a result of our research, we have instituted a program for patients who have a fear of dental treatment to be helped by specially trained counselors.
We provide educational programs for the Dental profession stressing the importance of the correlation between oral health and physical well-being.
Programs for the physically challenged
The Maccabee Institute has been mainstreaming physically challenged children and adults in an
array
of different projects.
Home Visitation Project
Volunteers keep contact with and visit elderly, ill and physically
challenged people who, for various reasons, find it difficult to leave the confines
of their homes. Our staff offers companionship, runs errands, does light housework and
repairs, and, whenever possible, takes their charge on day trips. These visits offer those
living with and responsible for the elderly and handicapped the cherished hours needed
for themselves.
Visits are also made to old age homes by single volunteers as well as by groups to enhance the
Sabbath and holiday atmosphere.
