“All who are hungry let them come and eat. All who are needy let them enter and partake of the Passover feast with us”.

Why do we distinguish between those who are hungry, “dichfin”, and those who are needy, “ditzrich”? Are not the needy hungry? Perhaps the answer is that hunger means not only lack of edible nourishment but also a need for human companionship and concern? The abandonment of the lonely and homeless, as well as of the aged is one of contemporary society’s greatest problems. People in need are pressured and spiritually confused. The lonely and elderly have fallen beneath the wheels of an increasingly demanding and abrasive society.

THE MACCABEE HOUSE offers these people an opportunity to be a part of the love of Am Yisrael, to eat a nourishing meal, and to warm the bodies and souls in order to enable them an another step in improving their lives. All of us need food - for the body and for the soul. THE MACCABEE HOUSE provides both in abundance. Let anyone who is in need of food, shelter, clothing and companionship who have become estranged from our rooted tradition: Come in and be reunited with their people, with their selves and with their heritage.
