About our Program:
The "Give a Job" program, overseen by Rabbi David Feld, Chairman of the World Maccabee Institute, offers vocational help, provides courses and distributes work equipment such as drills, saws, sewing machines, cooking equipment for catering businesses, etc. The project aims to help people be productive rather than just accepting charity without trying to use the skills that they naturally have. We also try to find jobs for people as well as try to create work for families in financial crisis.
We set up small cottage industries for poor families all over Israel like organic eggs, goats and cheese. One of the advantages of this program is that that livestock multiplies, which makes your initial donation a greater mitzvah than you ever could imagine. Funding generated from providing work equipment brings in ongoing income to poor families. We oversee and follow-up on all of the families taking part in this project. 10% of their produce and any excess livestock will create more cottage industries for more poor families making a chain of ongoing chesed.
One project started in Moshav Mevo Modi'im by Judy Avraham Chai is the Moshav Tour. It is a popular choice for tourists and local tourism for individuals, families and groups. The Moshav is situated between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. A wonderful tour is offered of Moshav Mevo Modi'im (see below), a beautiful Moshav to visit. And while you tour, you are giving chesed by giving work to guides, cooks, artists, musicians, etc.
The tour begins with a bird garden where one sees parrots from all over the world and other birds and trees, plants, goats, sheep, and more. There is goat cheese making (seasonal), then one goes trecking through the olive groves to a viewing point over Modi'im. The tour gives one a historical, biblical and botanical understanding; and of course the area is closely related to the story of Chanuka. The tour continues with an ancient olive and wine press and then one meets the artists at work. A tasty lunch is served and then to the shul for a live concert of Shlomo Carlebach nigunim.
If you wish to come on a tour please contact Judy Avraham Chai at 054-428-3646 or 08-926-4680. This is just one project on Mevo Modi'im but we are also fundraising for an olive press, green house, goat milking machine, mini tractor and the purchasing of olive trees, a project for after Shenat Shmitah.
Our motto is: the highest form of charity is to give someone a job and enable them to be productive.
